CLS Landscape Supply

CLS Landscape Supply has served Calgary and Cochrane homeowners and landscape professionals for over 20 years. We built their Shopify store from the ground up — creating a clean, intuitive e-commerce experience that makes it easy to browse bulk materials, hardscapes, and seasonal products and place orders online.

CLS Landscape Supply has been a trusted name in Calgary and Cochrane for over 20 years — supplying landscape professionals and homeowners with premium bulk materials, hardscapes, sod, and seasonal products. With two physical yards and a rapidly growing product catalogue, they needed an online store that could match the scale and professionalism of their operation.

The Challenge

CLS had the inventory, the reputation, and the customer base — but their digital presence wasn't keeping pace. Customers couldn't easily browse products online, compare options, or place orders outside of business hours. With hundreds of SKUs spanning bulk soil, gravel, decorative rock, paving stones, retaining walls, sod, and accessories, organizing their catalogue in a way that made sense to both homeowners and landscape contractors was a significant challenge. They also needed to support two buying formats — bagged "Landscape Bag" products and bulk delivery orders — within a single, cohesive storefront.

Our Approach

We chose Shopify as the platform for its e-commerce reliability, scalability, and the ability to customize the frontend experience while keeping the backend manageable for the CLS team. We built a structured product taxonomy from the ground up — organizing the catalogue both by material type (soil, gravel, sand, mulch, decorative rock, hardscapes) and by project type (backyard, frontyard, patio, sideyard) so customers could shop the way that made sense to them. Custom navigation, collection architecture, and a volume calculator tool were all built to reduce friction for both the DIY homeowner and the busy landscape contractor placing repeat orders.

What We Built

  • Dual-navigation product catalogue — organized by material type and by project, making it easy for any customer to find what they need
  • Landscape Bag vs. Bulk product structure — clearly separated purchasing formats within a unified store experience
  • Volume Calculator page — helping customers calculate exactly how much material they need before adding to cart
  • Professionals portal — a dedicated section for landscape contractors with tailored purchasing information
  • Project Profiles section — showcasing real installation examples to inspire homeowners and build trust
  • SEO-optimized collection and product pages — built with Calgary and Cochrane search visibility in mind
  • Delivery and pickup information pages — clearly explaining logistics so customers know exactly what to expect
  • Dirt Club loyalty program integration — encouraging repeat purchases through a points-based rewards system
  • Mobile-first design — optimized for the homeowner browsing on their phone during a weekend project run

The Result

CLS Landscape Supply now has an online storefront that reflects the scale and quality of their physical operation. Customers can browse hundreds of products, calculate material volumes, and place orders around the clock — without needing to call the yard during business hours. The structured catalogue has made it significantly easier for both new customers to discover products and for returning landscape professionals to reorder efficiently. The site positions CLS as the go-to landscape supply destination in Calgary and Cochrane.
